The Golden Touch – About The Book

Following the success of Time for Flowers, Time for Snow, Dimitris Ilias commissioned me to retell another Greek myth to be featured in the city of Laval’s 50th anniversary celebration—2015. A favourite from my childhood, I decided on the story of King Midas. Again, I retold the tale, with some touches of humour, for a young audience. Dimitris and his wife Maria Diamantis worked with another massed choir of over 200 school children, music composed by Gianis Georgantelis and presented by the Orchestre Symphonique Pop de Montreal. For the cd, Monty Python’s Terry Jones voiced the narrative. Dimitris and Maria took on the roles of the king and queen; Juliana The odoropoulis was Princess Zoe; Desmond Byrne Silenus (and Dionysus). Philippe Beha, the illustrator of Time for Flowers, Time for Snow, brought his own golden touch to the artwork for this one.
For the choir’s presentation with the Symphonique Pop de Montreal and the launch of the picture book and cd, children arrived—once again dressed to the nines—by limousine to the Laval Palace Reception Hall. A wonderful evening ending with a marathon of book-signing.
